Snackpoint Eaters Limburg heeft zich versterkt met een tweede Canadees. Naast verdediger Cody van Lierop, is Nick Guiney toegevoegd aan de selectie. De 26-jarige aanvaller uit Victoria, BC, kwam afgelopen seizoen uit voor het Franse Courchevel-Méribel-Pralognan. De vier seizoenen daarvoor speelde hij in de NCAA voor de Concordia Universiteit van Wisconsin. Guiney kwam in de vorige vijf seizoenen in 110 duels tot 108 punten en 110 minuten in de strafbank. De links schietende forward is 1m79 lang en weegt 82kg.
Dit is wat zijn voormalige coach Greg Smith van de Victoria Grizzlies over hem te melden heeft: ‘Nick is a very nice compliment to any team. He has always been a very hard working, well liked, and respected teammate. From the start Nick was willing to lead by example on and off the ice, and was ready to take on any role to help the team win. He has always been an offensive guy, with high hockey IQ and playmaking ability. Nick takes pride in making sure he can be used in any situation. He is a utility knife that can be used up and down the lineup. Being a local player on a junior team brings an added pressure to perform every game, I can truly say that Nick makes sure in one way or another he can contribute for our club every game and make a positive impact“
Coach Jeffrey van Iersel, ‘Met Nick halen we een gretige aanvaller binnen die zijn mannetje staat. Een forward die doelgericht speelt met scorend vermogen maar die ook zijn verdedigende taken niet schuwt. Hij is een energieke speler waar we veel plezier aan gaan beleven. In onze zoektocht kwamen we er trouwens achter dat Nick vroeger in Victoria heeft samengespeeld met Cody van Lierop en dat Cody toen bij hem en zijn ouders in huis heeft gewoond. Puur toeval dat ze nu weer met elkaar worden herenigd.’

Dinsdag 23 augustus om 19:00 uur betreden de spelers van Snackpoint Eaters Limburg onder leiding van coach Jeffrey van Iersel voor het eerst het Geleense ijs van Glanerbrook. Een mooie gelegenheid om de spelers voor het eerst aan het werk te zien, aangezien deze training vrij toegankelijk is. De beide imports zijn echter nog in afwachting van hun werkvergunning. Tot die tijd mogen ze niet aan trainingen en wedstrijden deelnemen.
