Qua naam zou die zo maar uit Geleen kunnen komen maar onze eerste import komt toch echt uit Canada. Van Cody van Lierop, de 26-jarige verdediger, wordt veel verwacht, wat coach Jeffrey van Iersel ook verduidelijkt, ‘het was al vrij snel duidelijk door een aantal vertrekken t.o.v. vorig seizoen dat wij verdedigend ons team moesten gaan versterken. Ik ben daardoor als eerste opzoek gegaan naar een import verdediger. 

Cody viel mij gelijk op in mijn zoektocht. Het college waar hij vandaan komt ken ik en heb vaker contact met zijn coach Patrick Grandmaitre gehad. Cody is een sterke solide verdediger die ook een Powerplay kan runnen. 

Gezien zijn verleden is Cody gewend leiderschap te dragen omdat hij een aantal jaar captain of alternate captain is geweest de clubs waar hij speelde. Zijn voormalig coach Grandmaitre gaf aan dat Cody een Ultimate team leader is en dat is net wat wij komend jaar nodig hebben. ‘

Grandmaitre vult Jeffrey aan, ‘Cody is the ultimate competitor and team player. Always leads by example and is willing to sacrifice everything for the team.

He's a shut down defenseman that moves the puck well. His offense comes from his vision and ability to put pucks on net. His teammates love him, but opponents hate him!

Cody's impact on our team was at every level. Whether it was in the gym, the classroom, academic support, practice, locker room, community, team building or on the ice, you could always count on him leading the way and doing it the right way.’
