Voorzitter Ron Lahay van S.T.E.L., de stichting die Snackpoint Eaters Limburg bestuurt, werd gisteravond onaangenaam verrast door het besluit van IJshockey Nederland om te breken met de Belgische IJshockey Federatie en zich daarmee terug te trekken uit de BeNe-League.

Volgens Lahay is dit een eenzijdig besluit waar S.T.E.L. niet achter staat. Net als collegae-bestuurders was hij niet op de hoogte van deze beslissing toen IJshockey Nederland e.e.a. publiceerde op hun website.

Lahay: “We zitten midden in de voorbereiding op een nieuw seizoen en zijn enthousiast bezig met een vergaande professionalisering van onze organisatie. Alle Nederlandse en Belgische clubs waren in afwachting van een reactie op een unaniem voorstel voor een opzet voor een grensoverschrijdende competitie voor komend seizoen. De reactie van IJshockey Nederland kwam gisteravond dan ook als een totale verrassing.

Ik ben er helemaal kapot van. We zijn gewoonweg voor het blok gezet - wat mij betreft een ongehoorde en onacceptabele manier van handelen. We zullen kijken wat dit voor gevolgen heeft en hoe we hier verder mee om moeten gaan.”
