Met het aanstellen van de 42-jarige Tilburger, keert een oude bekende terug in de ijshal van Glanerbrook in Geleen. In 2009 verkaste verdediger van Iersel, na elf jaar in de hoofdmacht van Tilburg gespeeld te hebben, naar de toenmalige Ruijters Eaters, waar hij uiteindelijk zes seizoenen voor uitkwam. Hij won de Beker van Nederland onder coach Mike Pellegrims, en werd kampioen van Nederland met coach Chris Eimers achter de bank.

Na zijn sportieve carrière wilde Van Iersel als coach verder. Via Den Bosch en Nijmegen kwam hij bij het Belgische Herentals terecht. Daar won hij in twee seizoenen alle vijf finales die te halen waren. Afgelopen seizoen zocht hij een nieuwe uitdaging in Duitsland.

Toen bekend werd dat hij daar zijn contract had ingeleverd, sloeg Bestuurslid Technische Zaken Peter Knops toe. Na diverse gesprekken bleek dit het juiste moment om een samenwerking aan te gaan. Van Iersel wordt daarbij niet alleen trainer/coach van Snackpoint Eaters Limburg, maar ook hoofdtrainer van de Geleense jeugdvereniging VJB.

Hierdoor moeten kortere lijnen zorgen voor een niveauverbetering bij beide en een soepelere samenwerking met en doorstroming naar de hoofdmacht.
Jeffrey van Iersel treedt 1 juni 2022 officieel in dienst van het Geleense ijshockey en de intentie is dat dit een driejarige verbintenis gaat worden.
