Ze zeggen wel eens hard werken loont, dit geldt zeker voor Rick Janssen. De verdediger stond pas in 2014 voor het eerst op het ijs. Hij begon toen met recreatief ijshockey bij Smoke Eaters. De nu 29-jarige vond destijds zijn passie, ging veel trainen en viel op bij de hogere teams van de VJB. Hij greep elke kans aan om mee te trainen en te spelen. In het seizoen 2017/18 kreeg hij de kans om mee te trainen met het BeNe League team, het beviel beiden goed en zo maakte hij ook zijn debuut in wedstrijden. Het was de bedoeling om in het seizoen 2018/19 het hele seizoen in het 'eerste' te spelen maar door omstandigheden was hij helaas niet op tijd fit en viel hij voor het seizoen af.

Maar vorig jaar was Rick weer terug, het seizoen verliep boven verwachtingen. Hij begon in het 1e Divisie team maar werd al snel overgeheveld naar het BeNe League team en speelde 29 wedstrijden. Hij scoorde zelfs één goal en bereidde er drie voor.

Rick: 'Ik werk er hard voor om te zorgen dat ik het vorige seizoen kan overtreffen en hoop dat het team echt voor de prijzen kan gaan spelen. De zomertraining verloopt goed. Alleen is het momenteel moeilijk te combineren met werk en de verbouwing van mijn huis, maar ik doe er echt alles aan om bij de eerste ijstraining fit te zijn.'

Rick zal ook dit jaar met zijn geboortejaar nummer (19)92 spelen.
